The Victor D'Amico Institute of Art, known as The Art Barge, is a summer art school located on the eastern end of Long Island.
On Sunday May 29th The Barge is holding it's Opening Reception from 4pm - 7pm. Instructor's Art will be in display in the gallery.
Created in 1960 by Victor D'Amico, the founding Director of Education at the Museum of Modern Art, the Institute is situated on a World War 1 Navy Barge that was towed ashore and beached along Napeague Harbor. With the Bay at one door, the Atlantic Ocean across the dunes, and surrounded by New York State wetlands preserve, the Barge is an idyllic haven for artists of all ages working in various media.
From a weekend workshop to a summer-long painting studio, the Barge offers a rich art experience to year-round residents and summer visitors alike, in a peaceful setting of "Sea, Sky and Salt Air".
