Chef-owner Matthew Guiffrida launched Muse in the Harbor in Sag Harbor in March 2012. Guiffrida, a noted chef with three featured appearances at the James Beard House, made his first splash as an owner on the South Fork scene in 2007 with Muse Restaurant & Aquatic Lounge, a Water Mill dining staple. He garnered rave reviews with “very good” ratings from Joanne Starkey of The New York Times who said, “it’s worth the hunt,” and Peter Gianotti of Newsday who declared, “it’s one of the best new restaurants in the Hamptons.”

Located on Sag Harbor’s bustling Main Street, Guiffrida excels in his new, larger and more accessible spot. Highlights of the original Muse moves to the harbor including, “its cozy, inviting milieu, its friendly yet highly professional waitstaff, its adventurous but rewarding international menu and… an affable, experienced, creative chef-owner,” as described by Richard Scholem of Long Island Pulse.
Guiffrida spearheads restaurant renovations and design, the first major revamp since JLX Bistro opened previously in 2004. The centerpiece of the dining room is his signature design element - a blue LED 8-foot long, 4-foot high, 2-ton fish tank filled with tropical fish – that doubles as an attraction for families and a conversation starter for first dates. Inside the stucco building, new features include driftwood floors, metallic paint, light blue and silver-grey hues, all-new furniture including the addition of a large banquette and renovated bathrooms. The outdoor space will be updated with an inviting entrance from the hostess stand bordering the high-traffic sidewalk to the new landscape of dune grass. Guiffrida has kept one remnant of the old space – the French doors – providing an open and airy dining atmosphere.

The New American menu expands at Muse in the Harbor offering old Muse favorites and new creative dishes from pastas to seafood. Appetizers are priced from $8 to $18, entrées from $19 to $38 and desserts for $8. Salads and starters to try are Fall apple salad of frisée lettuce tossed with Granny Smith apples, sunflower seeds, smoked Gouda, craisins, and crispy smoked salmon “bacon” with blood orange marmalade Caesar on crispy Gruyere cheese bread pudding; and “Not Ya Mama’s Meatballs” offering the usual “Swedish,” “Asian” with sweet and sour sauce and seaweed salad, “Italian” with pomodoro sauce and shaved Parmesan, and “Thanksgiving” with cranberry and caramelized Vidalia onion compote. “Supper Time” portion feature: wasabi jerked Long Island duck au poivre served alongside herb grilled sweet potato risotto with caramelized Vidalia onion and cranberry duck confit; and blackened sashimi style ahi tuna “tile” served on whipped gingered carrots and baby organic arugula with avocado mousse and all the sushi fixin’s. Customized vegetarian and vegan options are also available. Guests may top off their meal with a “Happy Ending” such as “Are You Ready For Smore?” with dark chocolate mousse, Graham cracker French toast, and torched homemade marshmallow. Menu items change each season.

Specials include a "Build Your Own" three-course $28.95 dinner prix fixe as well as a weekend brunch (availability changes with the seasons). Late-night action features DJs, bands and a bar menu offered until 2 a.m.

This is THE most beautiful bar in the Hamptons. The reef tanks are amazing, the mood is great and the food is spectacular. Chef Matthew dazzles with his unique dishes, all expertly prepared. No wonder the New York Times rated this gem a Very Good! Tough to find in Water Mill but worth seeking out. If you eat out one time this summer, go to Muse!
