Noted Gallery
64 Jobs Lane
Saturday, June 23rd, 5 – 7 PM: The new Southampton art gallery, Noted, curated & owned by newlyweds Lizzy Fraser Murray and Carl Murray, will host an Artist Reception of its Group Exhibition, “New York (Summer) School, ed. 01.” The Exhibition runs from June 9 through July 2 and displays works by Internationally acclaimed artists Vincent Pepi, Hans Van de Bovenkamp and the late Ben Wilson. The exhibit consists of works by Pepi, a consummate artist of the Abstract Expressionist movement who studied under Hans Hofmann, ranging from the 50s through 80s, each piece exemplifying the artists’ astute ability to combine the improvised nature of the movement while maintaining his commitment to composition. These works are complimented by Wilson’s later pieces in which the geometric abstractionist, known for his sporadic use of color, employs line and vague architectural forms to delineate space in his oil paintings. The fluidity of the show is further elevated with the sculpture of Hans Van de Bovenkamp and his paintings as well as form studies. While the artist’s work transcends genre, Van De Bovenkamp was inspired by friend and colleague Willem de Kooning’s use of abstract gestural line in painting when welding his monumental and inimitable sculptures. A particular standout of the exhibit is his towering piece, Cedilla Rising (2013). Noted Gallery is located on 64 Jobs Lane (south-west, cul-de-sac off the sidewalk) in the Village of Southampton. Reception June 23rd, 5 – 7 pm. “New York (Summer) School, ed. 01” - Show runs June 9 – July 2.
