details:
“Some two years ago,” The Sag Harbor Express wrote in 1897, “a few ladies began to agitate the subject of establishing here a circulating library. They found ready listeners and helpers among their neighbors. Many readable books were given for the purpose and many others were bought with the proceeds of an entertainment at the Field Club, and temporary quarters for the library were secured at Mrs. Jessup’s store,” now Beth’s Cafe. And thus began the Quogue Library. Please join Julie Greene, the curator of the Quogue Historical Society, for a talk on the female founders of the library
