Don't miss Movie Nights at Jewish Center of the Hamptons this summer! This year’s films include an array of genres including Comedy, Drama, Historical and Animated movies. Join us for a cinematic, cultural adventure! • WOMEN's BALCONY - July 8 - 7:00 pm. COMEDY/DRAMA - An accident during a bar mitzvah celebration leads to a gender rift in a devout Orthodox community in Jerusalem, in this rousing, good-hearted tale about women speaking truth to patriarchal power. When the women’s balcony in an Orthodox synagogue collapses, leaving the rabbi’s wife in a coma and the rabbi in shock, the congregation falls into crisis. Charismatic young Rabbi David appears to be a savior after the accident, but slowly starts pushing his fundamentalist ways and tries to take control. This tests the women’s friendships and creates an almost Lysistrata-type rift between the community’s women and men. • ABOVE & BEYOND - July 22 - 7:00 pm DRAMA - Would you risk everything – your future, your citizenship, even your life – to help a brother in need? In 1948, just three years after the liberation of Nazi death camps, a group of Jewish American pilots answered a call for help. In secret and at great personal risk, they smuggled planes out of the U.S., trained behind the Iron Curtain in Czechoslovakia and flew for Israel in its War of Independence. As members of Machal – “volunteers from abroad” – this ragtag band of brothers not only turned the tide of the war; they also embarked on personal journeys of discovery and renewed Jewish pride. This is their story. • PRINCE OF EGYPT - August 5 - 5:00 pm (Animated film for children) ANIMATED FILM - Two men – brothers and princes of the greatest empire on earth. One will someday rule Egypt. The other will become one of the greatest heroes of all time. A lie made them brothers but the truth will destroy a dynasty and forever separate them in faith in heritage in destiny. The epic journey of Moses from slave to prince to deliverer has been told and retold for centuries, inspiring generation after generation. *Note: Earlier start time • ON THE MAP - August 19 - 7:00 pm DRAMA - The against-all-odds story of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 1977 European Championship, which took place at a time when the Middle East was still reeling from the 1973 Yom Kippur War, the 1972 Olympic massacre at Munich, and the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight from Tel Aviv. Through the of lens of sports, ON THE MAP presents a much broader story of how one team captured the heart of a nation amidst domestic turmoil and the global machinations of the Cold War.
