American Legion feeling pinch of economy

On a recent Friday evening, Loran Hiltz was sitting at the end of a long wooden bar in the members’ lounge of the American Legion Post 419 in Amagansett. The far walls were covered with faded war-era posters—one depicted soldiers charging through a jungle and read “Korea”—and Mr. Hiltz was describing his job as the new service officer for the Legion. full story
