Pierson is the only local field hockey team that will make a postseason appearance this year.
The Lady Whalers were the top-ranked Class C team in Division II this season, despite finishing with a below-.500 record at 5-9. They will play second-seed Port Jefferson (7-8) on October 30 at Patchogue/Medford High School for the county ‘C’ title at 4 p.m. Pierson played more of the top-ranked teams in the division throughout the season, and was awarded more power points because of its tougher schedule. The Lady Whalers beat Port Jefferson twice during the regular season.
East Hampton finished in seventh place in Division II with a 9-5 record, while fellow Class B team Southampton was 11th with a 5-9 record. Only the top five ‘B’ teams in the division advanced to the playoffs. Hampton Bays, a ‘C’ school, finished with a 3-12 record.
