A Shirley man was arrested by New York State Police last week after authorities said he forcibly touched a child in Southampton.

Edward Quinn, 54, was arrested on Thursday, February 14, in connection to an incident that occurred on September 6, 2018, during which he touched a child younger than 17 years old, police said.

Mr. Quinn was charged with forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.

New York State Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim, a public information officer, declined to offer any additional details regarding the arrest or the prior incident.

Mr. Quinn was transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays and held for arraignment.
