The Hampton Bays boys and girls track teams competed at the Westhampton Beach Invitational on Saturday and walked out with a few champions.
Thomas O’Connell had a busy day, competing in three separate individual events. He won the 400-meter hurdles, in 58.79 seconds, finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet 11¼ inches, and finished 11th in the 110-meter hurdles, in 16.35 seconds.
Darwin Fernandez placed third in the 200-meter dash, in 23.79 seconds. Milan Moraga finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 3 inches. Brian Alvarez won the novice triple jump with a mark of 41 feet 1¾ inches.
The Lady Baymen had a couple of notable performances as well. Rachel Reycroft won the novice 200-meter dash, in 29.58 seconds, and placed eighth in the open 100-meter dash, in 13.65 seconds. Sarah Fassino placed fifth in the novice 100-meter dash, in 14.13 seconds.
The boys also competed at the Deer Park Invitational on April 23 and placed 10th overall out of 16 teams. O’Connell placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, in 60.34 seconds. Moraga placed third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet 10¾ inches, followed by teammate Jack Gilbert, who leaped 20 feet 4¾ inches. Moraga also finished fourth in the triple jump, placing a mark at 42 feet 9½ inches.
