The season came to a close for the Hampton Bays boys tennis team at the Division IV Tournament at Shoreham/Wading River High School this past weekend.
The Baymen entered five players in this year’s tournament—more than in recent past seasons—and two of them advanced past the first round. Patricio Pulla defeated East Hampton’s Brad Drubych, 7-6, 6-3, and Jeremy Carcamo defeated Southampton’s Duke Fagan, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. Both subsequently lost their next matches, though, and were eliminated.
Noah Sanabria also entered the singles draw, but had the tough luck of pulling the top-seed, Michael Koscinski of Center Moriches, in his first round match. Koscinski played Josh Kaplan of Westhampton Beach for the division singles title on Tuesday. James Kiernan and Aiden Caldwell were the lone doubles pair in the tournament for Hampton Bays. They lost, 6-2, 6-0, to Kyle Kochanski and Enda Zhou of Center Moriches in the first round.
Hampton Bays had a much improved season compared to the past few seasons. It finished the regular season 5-5 in League VIII, tied with Center Moriches, and most of its team is expected to return next season.
