A group of Napeague residents are not happy with an idea floated by the East Hampton Town Board last month to create a protected bathing beach at the edge of their neighborhood.

About two dozen residents of Montauk on the Sea, a neighborhood bordered by Dolphin Drive and Marlin Drive, on the ocean side of Napeague, attended a Town Board work session on Tuesday to voice their opposition to a proposal to install lifeguard stands, bathrooms, and a parking lot at a nearby beach.

Residents said they didn’t want the fragile environment of the beach to be disturbed, and were concerned that added traffic could result in even more car accidents on the dangerous Napeague stretch of Montauk Highway.

On September 20, Town Board members discussed the possibility of upgrading the town-owned beach... more

the idea that the residents are opposed to this bc of piping plovers, instead of wanting to keep the beach to themselves, is just ridiculous. Be honest about what you want, its more credible.

I agree, this is about the neighbors not wanting to share what they consider their beach. And Montauk by the Sea???? - they are in Amagansett.
