Gussie Briggs Lambert of Bridgehampton died on September 12. She was 76.
Born on May 7, 1940, in Summerton, South Carolina, she was the daughter of John and Amelia Briggs. She and her family were members of Shiloh Baptist Church in Summerton and she attended the Scotch Branch School District.
In the early 1960s, Ms. Lambert moved to Long Island and she met William J. Lambert of Bridgehampton. They married and made their home in Bridgehampton. She worked for many years at Rowe Industries in Sag Harbor and later did domestic work. She also helped raise many of her nieces and nephews.
An animal lover, she was often seen walking her dog.
Ms. Lambert was a active church member, joining the First Baptist Church in Bridgehampton, and she proudly marched from the old church on Corwith Avenue to the new church on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike. She later joined Triune Baptist and, after that, the First Baptist Church of Southampton. At each church, she was a member of the choir.
Ms. Lambert is survived by a son, Anthony “Tony” Lambert of Bridgehampton; a daughter, Melinda Lambert of Southold; a sister, Sarah Mae Nelson of South Carolina; grandchildren, Deonna Williams, Aja Williams, Travon Lambert and Harmoni Williams; a great-granddaughter, Kenaau Eleazer; and many relatives and friends.
A funeral service took place on September 23 at the First Baptist Church in Southampton. Arrangements were under the direction of the Seay Funeral Chapel in Riverhead.
