Ten little shade trees can be adopted by joining the Arbor Day Foundation in April.
The free 6- to 12-inch trees will be shipped along with planting instructions just in time to put them in the ground in April or May. They are guaranteed to grow or will be replaced free of charge.
New foundation members will receive a red oak, sugar maple, weeping willow, bald cypress, thornless honey locust, pin oak, river birch, tulip tree, silver maple and red maple.
“These trees provide shade in the summer and vibrant colors throughout the fall,” said Matt Harris, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, in a press release.
National Arbor Day is on April 24, and the foundation hopes to make it easy to celebrate by planting trees. The free trees are part of its Trees for America campaign.
To join, send a $10 contribution to Ten Free Shade Trees, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410, by April 30, or visit arborday.org/april.
