The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a flood watch for Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey, including eastern Suffolk County, effective noon Monday through Tuesday morning.
With the approach of a warm front Monday, widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at times from Monday afternoon through Monday night, a warning issued by the weather service notes. With the area just having experienced heavy rainfall and flooding on Friday and Saturday, rainfall on Monday of 1 1/2 to 2 inches could result in the flooding of small streams and rivers along with urban and poor drainage flooding, it says.
A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
