As a fun way to promote responsible dog ownership and awareness of its mission, the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons is holding its 18th Annual “Stroll to the Sea” Dog Walk on Saturday, October 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The two-mile walk to the ocean will begin with a ribbon cutting with award-winning actress Mercedes Ruehl at the Mulford Farm in East Hampton Village.
The walk will be followed by contests at 11 a.m. such as, “dog/owner look-alike,” “the pooch who can smooch,” and “musical dogs.” The first prize for all contest winners will be provided by Tiffany & Co. A dog agility course will also be set up for all to try out. Musician Sandy Rapp will perform again this year and a silent auction with many products, services and experiences will be available to owners and pets.
Dog walkers can register at www.arfhamptons.org—$25 for adults and free for children under 16. All registrants are entitled to free micro-chipping for their dogs, free T-shirts featuring artwork by designer Issac Mizrahi and refreshments including Starbucks Coffee and Dreesen’s Famous Donuts.
Those who raise the most pledges on the ARF website are eligible for two round-trip tickets to London on British Airways, an original portrait of their pet by artist Ellen Silverberg and their pet featured in ARF’s 2013 pet calendar. The top child prize is a brand new bicycle from Bermuda Bikes in East Hampton. Everyone who collects $250 in pledges or more will receive a charming pet key fob from Coach. Those who register as “Top Dog,” contributing $250, or a “Great Dane,” contributing $500, are invited to attend the exclusive kick-off cocktail party on Friday, October 14, at 6 p.m. in East Hampton.
The rain date for the walk is set for Sunday, October 16.
