New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr.’s legislative district, which currently encompasses the South Fork and southeastern Brookhaven Town, would gain the towns of Southold and Shelter Island from Assemblyman Dan Losquadro’s district under a plan proposed by a redistricting task force.
Under the redistricting plan, Mr. Thiele’s district would lose the communities of Mastic, Mastic Beach and Shirley, which would become part of the 3rd Assembly district in southeastern Brookhaven Town, currently represented by Assemblyman Dean Murray.
If the proposed map is finalized, the population of Mr. Thiele’s district would shrink from 142,833 to 128,929.
