An early poll commissioned by Democratic U.S. Representative Tim Bishop’s campaign suggests that he currently holds a double-digit lead over Republican Randy Altschuler, the congressman’s possible challenger this November and the man who came within 600 votes of unseating him two years ago.

The poll, which was paid for by Tim Bishop for Congress, concludes that the incumbent congressman currently holds a 17-point lead over Mr. Altschuler, who hopes to challenge Mr. Bishop a second time this fall. While he recently secured the Independence Party line, Mr. Altschuler, who was the Republican nominee in 2010, must first hold off a challenge from fellow Republican George Demos in a primary election that is scheduled for June 26 before securing the GOP line this November.

The poll’s results are based on responses from 402... more

This si good news, but it means that those who support Rep. Bishop can't let up.

Yes, Tim Bishop is the best man for the job. The 1st congressional district
will be much better off with him in office. He is a hard worker, dedicated, and
posesses a great deal of integrity. Moreover, he is well respected amongst his peers in Congress, and his seniority can truly benefit our district.

Slick Tim, true to form... "An early poll commissioned by Democratic U.S. Representative Tim Bishop’s campaign"….. “The poll, which was paid for by Tim Bishop for Congress”. Slimy packaging, more smoke and mirrors and manufacturing the image. Pay no attention to that bearded man behind the curtain, or his boiler room style handlers.
By Captn America (2161), Southampton on Apr 3, 12 8:37 PM
I pay attention to him, and will vote for him this November.
GO BISHOP!!

Good job. Global who??? Has announced Timmy is ahead by 11% in April based on a pool of 400 people! Based on that revelation Randy should give up! Seriously this is news??

Tim will win in the end, and should. Yes, this poll is just a snapshot, but if it had been the other way, Randy's spokeswoman Ms. Weir would be trumpeting it all over the district.

Since it hasn't gotten much attention in the media, let's not forget that Chairman Frank MacKay's three principal (only?) Independence Party officeholders on the East End -- Assemblyman Fred Thiele, County Legislator Jay Scheiderman & Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst -- repudiated his one-man endorsement ...more

With an 11% undecided and a 5% margin of error this so called poll means nothing. And I mean nothing. At all. A sample of 402 at 23K!? Those are the only numbers you need to see. Big government spends big money to talk to a minute percentage of the voters, press releases it and in reality they paid $60.00 per person in this poll. At least that's a little less than Tim paid for a screw driver through his no bid contracts to union thugs who kick tail at his Nassau County Open houses. $60/per ...more

The poll business was finished looong ago incidentally. Nobody pays attention to these anymore except the talking heads and the desperate. The only time the electorate get to speak is in the voting booth. It was ugly for (d) last time and more people than ever are aware of what is taking place and the citizenry is no less unemployed, broke, frustrated, angry and looking for the chance to express this, not at the water cooler any more, but in the voting booth. We/They quietly await our chance ...more

HAH! Good riddance, Randy. I hear there are some open seats in the Pakistani and Indian parliaments, perhaps you'd have better luck there.
By peoplefirst (766), Southampton on Apr 4, 12 11:22 AM
after 38 years of employment, 26 with the same employer, my job and most of the IT staff I supervised were eliminated and out-sourced to India, and I was lucky, I qualified for a pension while no one else did. Gee, guess who I'll send a few bucks to as a contribution.
By North of Highway (269), Westhampton Beach on Apr 4, 12 11:31 AM
Randy! Good for you. Did you ever consider you were outsourced because you did not do a good job?
By MickNY (43), East Hampton on Apr 4, 12 12:51 PM
Of course,it's the fault of the American worker. He's lazy and doesn't do his job well enough.
The conservative narrative.
By philathome (5150), Southampton on Apr 4, 12 3:49 PM
Yeah, gee, retained for 26 years.

He must have been HORRIBLE at his supervisory position, Mick.

Did you ever think that maybe it was just to cut costs, so as to keep the bottom line, pay level, and salary increases for the top end?

I'd bank on the latter...

In review of the poll takers website, they are a communications stategy group. They get paid to create the message. Whether the poll indicated preference for Tim or Randy, their job is to make sure the message supported the individual who hired them, Tim Bishop. Now one has to ask why Tim would need to do this. After all he's the incumbent. Problem is, he CAN'T run on his record so he has to manufacture the buzz.

Laughable. One needs to look no further than this piece of their Lead News section: "GSG congratulates Democrats across the country on their election victories" This company is so far in the tank with Obama they even list this: White House Deputy Communications Director Jennifer Psaki, one of the longest-serving members of Team Obama, will leave the White House on Thursday to head the Washington office of the public affairs and research firm of GSG.

I dont know about the anti christ but I do know two years ago Bishop won by the skin of his teeth. Bishop definitely leans far to the left. I know this "report" is BS when it says 4 out of 10 repubs have a favorable rating of him

Tim was too afraid to debate Randy because he ''wasn't the candidate yet'' but he doesn't mind trying to fool his deficient fans with a fake poll that he ''touts'' against the same guy. Too easy Tim! This is too easy. No debate, but the poll now that's real. Hahahaha. Whats the big deal? Tim's got it in the bag right? Just like the prez. It is ovah!!
By Stephen Maybaline (18), Southampton on Apr 8, 12 7:32 AM
Bum rap on Bishop, Stephen. By the way, you're the guy, aren't you, who in your first three posts here last month really mocked the eruv and Jewish observance generally, right? Nasty stuff, Stephen, whether one's for the eruv or against it.

Looking at the other posts in your short career, I'll give you the nod for calling out old Neil Tiger on some of his endless nonsense, and also for nailing the Wilson scenario as the Chief doing his job like a pro while a catfight goes on around him.

It just occurred to me that regardless of how transitory this poll may be, there's one person who'll swear by it, and that's George Demos. Watch him slam Randy with it in the Republican primary contest, claiming it proves Altschuler can't beat Bishop.
By Turkey Bridge (880), Quiogue on Apr 11, 12 12:09 PM
I heard that that Tim will announce he will not run within the next two weeks and a substitute will be placed in. Randy will be the next Congressman. This is not a rumor this is a fact. Why are so many of you angry in your posts. If you all think you can do a better job get off your lazy butts and run for public office. Most of you can dish it out but can't take it. Only property owners get to run for office? Maybe we can take the right to vote away also - back to the feudal system!

I think the only thing you should be complaining about is the failure of the educational system to adequately prepare you for life as an adult as evidenced by your post.

He holds telephone Town Halls where his staff select the questions to be asked of him with no retorts. He held a Town Hall meeting last election where all the questions were selected by reporters from Newsday. He claims 7500 hundred people called in to his phone Town Hall but he called you. I know because I was one. When everything is one way it just seems like Prada to me. BTW I am no fan of Randy either. I just like to have a Rep who has the guts to listen to all of their constituents.

Tim Bishop has a wonderful feel for running a business. The last business Tim ran was Southampton College, which delared bankruptcy and closed under his direction. He will now vote for every bill that spends money we don't have and will never repay,he' ll wrack up the National Debt, and will undermine
The value of the dollar as he continues to vote for nationalizing huge swaths of the private economy. Socialism is a failed philosophy, the only thing that is equally shared is the misery it ...more
