The East Hampton boys lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season on Monday, beating Mattituck/Greenport/Southold 11-8 at home. The Bonackers improved to 2-4 in Division II, 2-6 overall with the win, giving them 88.720 power points, putting them in 18th place of the 22 teams in the division. The win snapped a three-game losing streak.
East Hampton led, 5-3, after the first quarter and was up 7-4 at halftime. Drew Harvey, a player from Pierson, led the charge for the Bonackers, scoring four goals and adding five assists. Harvey, a sophomore, is having an “outstanding” season, according to head coach Mike Vitulli. Harvey has 18 goals and 10 assists thus far this season. Bryan Seekamp also had four goals and added an assist, and he is second on the team in points with 14 goals and seven assists thus far. Ryan Fitzgerald scored twice and had three assists and Drew Griffiths had a goal and an assist.
Coming off a three-game sweep of rival Hampton Bays, in which they scored a total of 38 runs, the Mariners felt pretty good about their chances to hand first-place Babylon its first loss of the season. But they ran into a buzzsaw on Monday, falling 2-0 to the Panthers and pitcher Max Watt, who allowed just two hits and struck out 14 to keep his team unbeaten atop the League VII standings at 9-0. Southampton fell to 3-6 with the loss.
John Donovan pitched well for Southampton but took the loss.
The Lady Mariners fell to 1-4 on the season in League VII with a 13-7 home loss to Bayport/Blue Point on Monday night. The Lady Mariners were set to begin crossover games with League VIII opponents this week, with a game scheduled at Pierson (4-1) for Wednesday, April 18, and a battle with Stony Brook (2-2) at home on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
