Main Beach Surf and Sport in Wainscott will sponsor the 2012 Stand-Up Paddleboard Race Series, with proceeds benefiting the Peconic Baykeeper.
The inaugural three-race series will kick off on Saturday, May 19, at 8 a.m., at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor. Entry is $40 if paid in advance and $50 on the day of the race.
The race will be broken up into different class categories and includes a Recreational Class, a 12-6 Stock Class and a 14 Elite Race Class, making it appropriate for all fitness levels. Prizes and swag bags will be given out after the race, and refreshments will be served. Members of the East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue Crew will be on hand to keep racers safe.
The series will continue on Sunday, July 29, in East Hampton and conclude on Saturday, October 6, in Amagansett. The locations for those races have not yet been determined.
Proceeds from the race will help the Peconic Baykeeper’s wastewater management reform efforts, starting in East Hampton Town. To register for the first race, call Main Beach Surf and Sport at 537-2716 or visit www.mainbeach.com.
