The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Inc., based in Wainscott, has reported record breaking numbers of pet adoptions at the end of its first quarter. By the end of April, the agency had placed more than 320 animals with permanent homes, a 100-percent increase from last year.
The group attributes its success to a number of off-site adoption events held this year. In March, ARF hosted nine Long Island animal agencies at Long Island’s Best, A Pet Adoption Expo in Riverhead, resulting in 22 adoptions. In April, ARF participated in the New York Super Pet Adoption event in Westchester, which was hosted by the Best Friends Animal Society and where 30 animals were placed into homes.
“We are really excited about these numbers. Knowing that lives are at risk, the more animals we can place into loving homes, the more animals we can rescue who are in jeopardy of euthanasia at other shelters in the country,” Animal Rescue Fund Executive Director Sara Davison said in a statement released by the agency.
