After dropping two consecutive games in League VI, the East Hampton softball team got back on track with a crucial 6-2 win at Miller Place. East Hampton held a slim 3-1 lead until the final inning. In that frame, the Lady Bonackers loaded the bases before first baseman Ilsa Brzezinski hit the ball hard into the pitcher’s leg. It bounced off her leg and then the Lady Panthers threw the ball into right field, trying to make an out at first. Three runs scored due to that blunder before Brzezinski was thrown out at third to end that half of the inning. The damage was done however, as East Hampton went ahead 6-1. Miller Place tacked on one more run in the bottom of the inning before East Hampton got the final out.
League VI leader Sayville also lost on Monday, falling 3-1 to Shoreham. That loss, combined with the win over Miller Place, meant that East Hampton still had a chance to be co-league champions with Sayville. The teams were scheduled to square off in the regular season finale at East Hampton on Tuesday, May 15, weather permitting. Results will be in next week’s edition.
Both teams qualified for the Class A playoffs and will have home field advantage in the first round. The playoffs will begin on Wednesday, May 23, at 4 p.m.
