Altschuler Sweeps Primary Election, Will Face Bishop in November

Jun 27, 2012 10:22 AM

Republican Randy Altschuler has secured his spot on November’s election ballot, clearing the way for a rematch with Democratic U.S. Representative Tim Bishop.

Mr. Altschuler, of St. James, captured most of the votes in a primary election on Tuesday against Republican George Demos, a contender from Ronkonkoma who had backed out of the race last month but due to election deadlines remained on the ballot.

Mr. Altschuler amassed 6,692 votes, or about 87 percent of the entire count, to Mr. Demos’s 973 votes, or approximately 12.7 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results listed on the Suffolk County Board of Elections website. There were a total of 22 write-in votes, or about 0.28 percent.

“We’re very happy,” said Diana Weir, Mr. Altschuler’s campaign manager, when reached on Tuesday night. “We’re very pleased that the voters came out and showed their support. And that’s very important moving forward as well. The next step is to regroup and keep this momentum going so we can face Congressman Bishop.”

This will be Mr. Altschuler’s second attempt at trying to unseat Mr. Bishop. He lost two years ago by about 600 votes.

Mr. Altschuler thanked supporters on his Facebook page at about midnight on Tuesday.

“Thank you!” he wrote. “We did it together! On to victory in November!”

As of Wednesday morning, the Facebook posting had received 70 likes.

Election Day is November 6.

One down one to go and we can send the Honorable Mr. Bishop off to a well deserved retirement after his many years of public service.

"Sweeps"? Demos had already dropped out of the race before the primary was even held. Thank God come November we will finally be rid of serial outsourcers Randy and Mitt.

"Outsourcers"? Please find some new material. Spouting the party line is getting awfully boring.

"Sweeps" indeed! Against a withdrawn opponent. Am I to infer there's a touch of irony in this headline? If so, nice work, Rohma.

I am dissappointed that progressnow and Turkey Bridge are so bitter! So tired of the "outsourcer" and "go back to Jersey comments" - all "slanted" (to say the LEAST!) and not true, but hardly surprising from SH Dem-at-all-cost die hards and friends of Bishop - as if by repeating a lie (about Outsourcing and New Jersey) and calling someone a "Carpetbagger" because of a political affiliation 9 million times it - somehow - becomes true??? Same blogging happens in East Hampton from Democrat committee ...more

You ought to get used to the "outsourcer" moniker since that was how he actually built his company and made his millions shipping thousands of American jobs to India and other countries. Truth hurts and he now wants to represent the East End and pontificate about his "job creation" accomplishments.

The Emperor has no clothes and is utterly transparent. And yes he
was truly from Jersey.

The Republicans treat women in such a horrible manner.A woman voting for a Republican is like a Jewish person voting for Hitler

With the Independence line now his, Altschuler will win in November by 5000 votes. I figure Altschuler picks up 3000 of the 7300 Independence votes Bishop received last election. That's 3000 more for Altschuler and 3000 less for Bishop, which is a 6000 turnaround and 5000+ victory. And that is with picking up far less than one half of the Independence votes from 2010.

Sort of ... had Demos REALLY had all that Dem support money-which he had access to and used it - he may have BEAT Altschuler if his peeps showed up ... but they didn't ... although a candidate says he's "backing out" doesn't mean there's not a primary (that cost us all $$$ - shame on you George Demos - really ....)

Actually didn't cost a dime extra as there was a state-wide Republican Primary Election to select the U.S. Senate candidate. Polls, inspectors, etc. all would have been there regardless.
