Lifesavers from across Southampton Town will gather for the third-annual Southampton Town EMS Advisory Committee’s Nancy Makson Volunteer of the Year dinner on Friday night, May 3, in Southampton Village.
One member from each of the eight companies in town will be honored for his or her achievements during 2012. One of those winners will take home the overall grand honor, named in memory of the late Ms. Makson, an instrumental figure for the Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Company.
The name of the “volunteer of the year” is kept under tight wraps until the end of the evening and is a source of great anticipation at the event, according to Violetta Zamorski, the committee chairwoman.
The committee considers the eight winners nominated by each of their companies and then votes on their choice of the member or members whose achievements—either a singular feat like saving a life or overall performance last year—rose above the rest.
The eight companies are the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance, the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, the Bridgehampton Fire Department, the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance, the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance, the East Quogue Fire Department, the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance and the Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance. The event will be held at Seasons of Southampton on Prospect Street.
