The Parrish Art Museum is waiving its admission fee on Sunday, February 26, for its first Community Day of 2017.
The free events at the museum in Water Mill will include art workshops, live entertainment, “zip tours” of exhibitions and complimentary refreshments.
“Community Day is an opportunity for members of the public—adults, children, and families—to experience all that the Parrish Art Museum has to offer year-round: engaging art exhibitions; creative and fun art workshops for children and adults; and live music performances. What is most important is the opportunity for all to engage with art, artists, and one another,” said Parrish director Terrie Sultan in a statement. “We invite the entire community to join us and we especially look forward to welcoming anyone who has not yet visited the Parrish. The museum is here for everyone.”
Admission will be free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each Community Day. Activities will be scheduled throughout the museum from noon to 4 p.m. In the lobby, art workshops will feature origami with museum educator Wendy Gottlieb, and abstract sculpture with Parrish education associate Jillian Bock. After short tours of the galleries to provide inspiration, Madolin Archer will lead mixed media collage projects between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. inside the Lichtenstein Theater, where there will be a photo booth and live performers, including the Bridgehampton Marimba Band and singer/songwriter ScottE. Hopson.
The “zip-tours” are mini tours of the 2017 Student Exhibition and the permanent collection exhibition “Materiality and Process.
More Community Days will be planned throughout the year, providing a sampling of the museum’s regular programming, as well as some activities that are not normally part of the Parrish’s offerings.
