Bloomsday is coming early this year on the East End.
WPKN Radio 89.5 FM will air a special broadcast of its program “East End Ink” on Wednesday, March 29, that was recorded on June 16, 2016, at Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor in observance of Bloomsday.
Bloomsday is a celebration of Irish author James Joyce and, in particular, “Ulysses,” his novel that takes place on June 16, 1904, in and around Dublin.
At Canio’s last year, East Hampton actress Kate Mueth read from “Penelope,” the last chapter of “Ulysses.” Press News Group Executive Editor Joseph Shaw spoke about Joyce’s legacy, and East End Beacon Editor Beth Young told a tale from a Bloomsday past in Sag Harbor.
“East End Ink” is broadcast on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. WPKN can be streamed live at wpkn.org.
