Zeldin To Host 2017 Congressional App Challenge

Jul 25, 2017 3:30 PM

High school students across New York’s 1st Congressional District will have the opportunity to participate in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge.

The challenge, which U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin has agreed to host alongside other members of Congress, was created to encourage high school students to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics, otherwise known as STEM fields.

Students who participate can do so individually or as groups of up to four, and will be tasked with creating any type of software application for a platform of their choice, including mobile phone, tablet or other computing device.

In a prepared statement, Mr. Zeldin expressed the importance of such a competition: “STEM, coding and computer sciences are vitally important fields of study for students in the 21st century … educating and preparing our youth to pursue good-paying jobs, which contribute to the growth of our economy.”

More information regarding eligibility, team and age requirements, and judging criteria can be found at congressionalappchallenge.us. Applicants also may call the office of the congressman at 631-289-1097.
