Deepwater Holding Public Info Session In Montauk Wednesday

Jan 9, 2018 3:09 PM

Deepwater Wind will hold another public information session on its wind farm plans on Wednesday, January 10, at the Montauk Playhouse in Montauk.

Representatives of the Rhode Island company will be on hand at the playhouse from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to field questions and concerns about the project.

Wednesday’s meeting is geared directly toward garnering input from recreational and commercial fishermen, but the meeting is open to any members of the public.

Deepwater has proposed constructing 12 to 15 turbines, each some 600 feet tall, in an area of ocean southeast of Block Island known as Cox Ledge.

Fishermen have proven to be the main opponents of the project, known as the South Fork Wind Farm. They have raised concerns about the impacts the construction of the turbines will have on migrating fish species.
