Trump Endorses Zeldin; Giffords Supports Gershon In East End Congressional Race

Perry Gershon. PRESS FILE
Oct 1, 2018 2:31 PM

President Donald Trump last week announced his endorsement of U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin for his re-election run for the 1st Congressional District seat in the House of Representatives.

“Congressman Lee Zeldin is doing a fantastic job in D.C.,” Mr. Trump said via Twitter. “Tough and smart, he loves our country and will always be there to do the right thing. He has my complete and total endorsement.”

Mr. Zeldin, a Republican, is seeking a third term in office.

“With challenges still ahead, Congressman Zeldin is looking forward to continue working with the president and colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find common ground however possible in pursuit of solutions that will improve the lives of his constituents and all Americans,” Chris Boyle, the congressman’s campaign communications director, said on Friday.

Mr. Boyle noted that Mr. Zeldin has previously worked closely with Mr. Trump on issues relating to MS-13, gang violence, withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal, moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and combating the opioid epidemic.

Mr. Trump’s endorsement came just after Perry Gershon, Mr. Zeldin’s Democratic challenger, secured an endorsement from Giffords, a nonprofit gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Captain Mark Kelly.

“The level of gun violence we experience in our country is not normal and, thankfully, we finally have leaders running for office who have the courage to fight to finally address it,” Ms. Giffords said in a statement. “Voters are ready to elect Perry Gershon because he will always put protecting their communities over helping the gun lobby make a profit.”

“If elected in November, I pledge to make passing lifesaving gun safety measures a top priority,” Mr. Gershon added.

"The tax cut package angered liberals in the president's party due to the extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for the roughly two percent of highest-earning Americans, which comes at a cost of $120 billion over two years."

That's half accurate. There was a temporary extension of the tax cuts until 2012 in exchange for several items the Republicans held hostage, then the tax cut on highest earners was allowed to expire in 2012.

Reading the above immature and sophomoric comments by Zeldin followers is reason enough to vote for Perry Gershon. Our country is at one of those points that future historians will say was a turning point. Will we go down the Neo Nazi path of Bannon, Trump, Miller, Gorka, and ZELDIN or will we reject the policies of greed, hate and self destruction and choose a better life for all our children? That is the question the voters must answer

I think back to Susan Collins's explanation: she said she applied a standard of whether the allegations were "more likely than not" accurate.

My question is: if I'm only 33% sure a person sexually assaulted another, isn't that still a good reason to deny someone a job?

If I owned a business and I was 33% sure an otherwise-qualified candidate assaulted several women, would I still hire them?

BUSTED: One remarkable aspect of Foer’s story involved the way that the Trump domain had stopped working. On September 21st, he wrote, the Times had delivered potential evidence of communications to B.G.R., a Washington lobbying firm that worked for Alfa Bank. Two days later, the Trump domain vanished from the Internet. (Technically, its “A record,” which translates the domain name to an I.P. address, was deleted. If the D.N.S. is a phone book, the domain name was effectively decoupled from its number.) For four days, the servers at Alfa Bank kept trying to look up the Trump domain. Then, ten minutes after the last attempt, one of them looked up another domain, which had been configured to lead to the same Trump Organization server. Max’s group was surprised. The Trump domain had been shut down after the Times contacted Alfa Bank’s representatives—but before the newspaper contacted Trump. “That shows a human interaction,” Max concluded. “Certain actions leave fingerprints.” He reasoned that someone representing Alfa Bank had alerted the Trump Organization, which shut down the domain, set up another one, and then informed Alfa Bank of the new address.

In any event, the more-relevant question is how Steele got there: Tolenism.

P.S. He only received two less votes in the initial round in 2011 than he did in 2009; he was the second frontrunner both times. But don't let facts get in your way.

I have every belief people think that. Sadly, it's always about race with some, normally they are Democrats.

However, 168 votes, cast among five candidates over six rounds in which another candidate received more votes in the initial round than Steele and a final vote of 91-77 would indicate he simply won the chairmanship election.

Christie-Lee McNally: Google Does Not ‘Worry About Legislation’ Because They ‘Bought’ Congress

Christie-Lee McNally, executive director of Free Our Internet, warned of large technology companies’ procurement of political influence via lobbying efforts in Washington, Free Our Internet is a non-profit organization describing itself as an opponent of the “tech-left” and its political censorship of “conservative speech online.”
Oct 12, 18 2:23 AM appended by joe hampton
Google (now part of parent company Alphabet) spent over $18 million lobbying politicians in 2017, according to federal disclosure records. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, this is the first time a technology company has spent the most on lobbying costs in at least two decades. Google did not return TIME’s request for comment about its lobbying activities. McNally praised Breitbart News coverage of threats to free speech and expression posed by the growing power of technology companies under left-wing management. She highlighted Breitbart News’s recent publication of a leaked 84-page document detailing some of Google’s political censorship efforts. “I want to thank you guys for getting this document and informing people of what we have been screaming for a couple of years, now,” said McNally. “[People have been saying], ‘You guys are crazy. This is not happening.’ We watched the hearings and we talked about back in April and May and we were told, ‘This is just a conspiracy,’ and all of what we have been saying is now in our hands, proof that what we’ve been saying is true.” McNally described Google’s political censorship as a threat to the First Amendment, “It terrifies me even more … that what we’ve been saying is absolutely happening. The scariest part of the document is [Google declaring it opts for] ‘European tradition’ rather than ‘American tradition.’ That means they want to undermine not only the First Amendment but our Constitution.”

By Po Boy (2771), Water Mill on Oct 16, 18 1:24 PM
It's true that the average American of European background has slightly more Native American DNA than the low-end estimate of 1/1024, but much less than the 1/32 high-end estimate.

It also doesn't negate her background to say it's widely shared.

It's hardly a "woman of color" and doesn't meet any criteria to be designated as American Indian other than her own self identification which is a Democrat platform staple these days. No real surprise here.

Again, why would I admit to or acknowledge something I knew was incorrect, that is, until the "facts" warrant correcting?

Reasonable assessment I think.

please define "corporate welfare" foreign.
By bigfresh (3752), north sea on Oct 17, 18 6:16 AM
Corporate Welfare. Corporate welfare is one manifestation of the special-interest spending problem. The budget contains many subsidies that aid some businesses at the expense of taxpayers and the overall economy. The government spends about $100 billion annually on corporate welfare, according to a 2012 Cato study.
By Fred s (1200), Southampton on Oct 17, 18 6:22 AM
Business subsidies undermine both capitalism and democracy. Allowing politicians to channel economic resources toward their preferred ends distorts investment and trade. Moreover, turning government into an engine of illicit profit encourages what economists call rent-seeking. Well-organized special interests usually triumph over the broader public and national interest. From the American conservative,a very left leaning publication.

Tax incentives for business that are inefficient or downright wasteful.

One question to ask is "would the benefit received by intended beneficiaries through the incentive be greater or less than the benefit of receiving the funds outright?"

Where the benefit of receiving the funds outright outweighs the benefit of the incentive, that's corporate welfare.

Duh Fred. It was intended to be from before the tax cuts to show it's not a new problem and that it is influenced primarily because of spending, not revenues.

By Po Boy (2771), Water Mill on Oct 16, 18 9:29 PM
Po boy, don’t give me your “duh”. It was a lame post. Your point is wrong. You can’t compare two totally different approaches to the economy, and expect your result. It was predicted that there was going to be a massive deficit from trumps tax cuts, it’s happening.
By Fred s (1200), Southampton on Oct 17, 18 6:04 AM
Huh? Historical out of control entitlement spending isn't worthy of comparison to a drive-by claim of lack of revenue when the top 1,409 individual taxpayers pay more than the bottom 70% combined?

Word on the street is that Stormy Daniels took a DNA test too. It revealed that she is in fact 80% Clydesdale and 20% Shetland Pony.

She was upfront about her claim, and the evidence supports it.

End of story.

To reiterate my reiteration, please stop using Lies or Lunacy (LOL) to warn us that the substance of your upcoming post is deceit or irrationality. Once again, your latest post (preceded by this acronym) is BOTH. "Lies AND Lunacy" (LAN) is the honest forewarning. (Oh, wait, I see the problem.)

More meretricious parsing of the word, "Indian".

By your subservient reckoning,The Donald would only be obligated to pay out if both of Elizabeth Warren's parents were Indians. (Actually, even that would probably not be enough for you if it stood in the way of your idol getting off the hook of his promise.)

Trump lied about the million dollar hole-in-one prize and he lied about the million dollar reward for proof of Elizabeth Warren's Indian ancestry. It's ...more

LOL! A liberal is making the accusation of "parsing" let's examine the claim keeping in mind, they are always guilty of what they accuse you of.

Riddle me this with your Liberal Obtuse Logic...you claim I committed "meretricious parsing of the word, "Indian" but yet, the Cherokee have adamantly denounced Elizabeth Warren's claim, stating "Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage?"

She claimed Native American heritage and the DNA test proved it.

Deceit and irrationality.

Elizabeth Warren said that she had Indian blood in her ancestry. The Donald, responding to that claim, promised a million dollars to anyone who could prove it. It was proved - - - and The Donald is welshing - - - as usual.

Employees of Trump's Westchester golf club positioned the tee on the 13th hole (the million-dollar-hole-in-one-hole) in such a way as to make winning the prize impossible under the rules of the event. Those employees ...more

....and the President said..."and it shows you're an Indian." Indian as we know requires a minimum amount of blood line...and she does not have it. The president is keeping to his word - - - as usual.

"Employees of Trump's Westchester golf club"... congratulations on your modicum of honesty in your otherwise dishonest debate. The fiduciary relationship and responsibility was not Donald Trump's to bear within the law of agency.

Deceit and irrationality redux.

First of all there IS NO minimal bloodline to be considered an Indian. Each tribe sets its own criterion.

Second, Elizabeth Warren claimed "Indian ancestry", and, in response to THAT CLAIM, Trump offered a million dollars to anyone who could prove that she is an "Indian". YOU are making the same weaselly distinction between "Indian" and "Indian ancestry" that The Donald would doubtless make himself if he could even be bothered ...more

I don't remember anyone saying Judge (now-Justice) Kananaugh should have been removed from his federal judgeship, they just didn't think he should get promoted.
By Fore1gnBornHBgrown (4205), HAMPTON BAYS on Oct 17, 18 10:07 AM
Of course "anyone" said he be removed from his position.

If he was assumed guilty and deemed not fit for the Supreme Court the sentiment was that he be assumed guilty and not fit for the position he previously held - not to mention - his teaching position at Harvard and his coaching as well.

This was the core of the Left-wing mob despicable argument aimed at destroying the man.

By Po Boy (2771), Water Mill on Oct 18, 18 8:14 AM
Can you identify a "Democrat of significance" (you like that callback?) who said Kavanaugh should lose his federal judgeship?

I'm pretty sure the debate was limited to whether he should get a promotion, but I'm open to the possibility I'm wrong.

Sounds like Ted Lieu is asking whether Kavanaugh should be removed if the allegations are true, not saying he should be removed, period.

If I support an inquiry does that mean I've already made up my mind on what the results will be?

I know, nuance is hard.
