Longstanding Film Festival Unveils New Identity: Hamptons Doc Fest

In the last decade, the Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival has grown by leaps and bounds. The festival is back for 2018, but with a new logo, website and name—Hamptons Doc Fest.

“After 10 successful years we knew we’d outgrown ‘Take 2,’” explained the festival’s founder and executive director, Jacqui Lofaro, in a recent email. “In launching the next decade, we also wanted something short, succinct and focused on our commitment to documentary film.

“Hamptons Doc Fest was born. And we hope it will be with us for another decade.”

The name may be new, but the lineup of thought-provoking documentaries continues. This year’s festival runs five days with films covering a range of subjects shown at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor from Thursday, November 29, through Monday, December 3.

Among the diverse offerings are two films about legendary figures with an East End connection who have been key players in the LGBTQ movement. One used his voice on the stage, the other took her case for equal treatment for gay and lesbian couples all the way to the Supreme Court.

But both Terrence McNally and Edie Windsor are studies in bravery, courage, and being true to oneself in the face of fear and prejudice.
