Democratic congressional candidate Perry Gershon says he will hold “town hall”-style gatherings with 1st Congressional District voters every month until the June 2020 Democratic primary vote, to spotlight what he says should be a return to a spirit of working together.

Mr. Gershon, an East Hampton resident who lost a bid to unseat Republican U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin last fall and has already announced that he will run again next year, is calling his meeting circuit the “Restore American Values Tour” and said he will hold meetings across the 1st District in the run-up to next year’s vote.

“Washington is broken, and too many politicians are more interested in the next sound bite than respecting our true American values,” Mr. Gershon said in a statement from his campaign. “Our representatives have forgotten how to work together, respect one another, and move forward for the common good. I’m running for Congress to change that.”

The first town hall will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, at the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Library in Shirley. Mr. Gershon will hold a town hall in Smithtown in October, and another in Stony Brook in November.

The town halls will resume in January 2020 and will be scheduled at least monthly until the Democratic primary next June, Mr. Gershon said.
