HIFF Freebies Come With Breakfast, Too

A general admission ticket to any regular screening at the Hamptons International Film Festival costs $15. Founders Passes—granting access to all films, panels and award ceremonies, without waiting in line—run $1,500 a pop.

But not all HIFF activities have a price tag attached. From Friday, October 10, through Sunday, October 12, the nonprofit film festival will host a slate of free Rowdy Talks every morning at 10 a.m. inside Rowdy Hall in East Hampton—breakfast included, no ticket required. First come, first served.

The fourth annual series kicks off on Friday with the panel discussion “Video on Demand—Frontier Distribution” with Lisa and Neil Rosman of NY1, entertainment reporter Bill McCuddy, and Jay Hogan of Gathr, who will discuss whether the once-taboo distribution strategy has ruffled feathers for the better, considering recent success stories as of late.

On Saturday, October 11, get up close and personal with Academy Award-nominated writer/director Oren Moverman on the heels of his latest feature, “Time Out of Mind,” starring Richard Gere, which will screen as a Spotlight Film on Friday, October 10, at Guild Hall in East Hampton and Saturday, October 11, at East Hampton Cinema.

And closing out the series on Sunday, October 12, is a handful of the competitors vying for the Golden Starfish Awards—writer/director Sara Colangelo of “Little Accidents;” Henning Kamm, producer of “The Special Need;” director Jaap van Hoewijk of “Killing Time;” and Kazik Radwanski, director of “Cutaway.” The winners will be announced the next day during an awards ceremony in East Hampton. Until then, their fingers will be crossed.

The 22nd annual Hamptons International Film Festival will kick off on Thursday, October 9, and run through Monday, October 13, with screenings, panel discussions and red carpet walks at theaters from Westhampton Beach to Montauk. For a complete schedule of events, visit hamptonsfilmfest.org.

Center Stage at Southampton Arts Center presents “The Dining Room” by A.R. Gurney from Friday, April 26, through Sunday, April 28, at Southampton Arts Center. Once upon a time, before open concepts and eat-in kitchens became the must-have element of a home, the dining room was second only to the kitchen as the heart and hearth of any dwelling. In 1982, A.R. Gurney examined the worth, value and purpose of the center of most family holidays, declamations, disagreements and life-altering events. In 18 vignettes, Gurney examines this room and its versatility and variety of functions — humorously, pointedly, poignantly and ... by Staff Writer
