Those who join the Arbor Day Foundation by the end of this month will have 10 free flowering trees delivered just in time for planting between February 1 and May 31.
For a $10 donation, the foundation will pack up two Sargent crabapples, three American redbuds, two Washington hawthorns and three white flowering dogwoods and send them off. The 6-to-12-inch-tall trees are guaranteed to grow or will be replaced free of charge.
“These beautiful trees will give your home in New York lovely flowers with pink, yellow and white colors,” said Matt Harris, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, in a release, adding that the trees are appropriate for yards large and small and provide food and habitat for songbirds.
Planting instructions accompany the little trees, and those who’ve joined the foundation will also receive subscriptions to the its bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and “The Tree Book,” which includes tips on planting and caring for trees.
Membership is available by mailing $10 to Ten Free Flowering Trees, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410 by January 31. New York residents also can join online at arborday.org/january.
