The calendar is moving in to February. So far we have had great weather, but that does not mean that there is much happening in the village. All is fairly quiet.
It is nice to see students doing so well in college. Hopefully, when they graduate they can land the job of their dreams. Here’s news of some of our local scholars:
Pierre Dempsey, a junior majoring in business and economics, was named to the dean’s list at University of Delaware.
Samantha Ward was named to dean’s list at St. Bonaventure University.
Tamara Guillen made the dean’s list at Wake Forest University.
Congratulations to all. Keep up the good work.
Woody Allen fans take note: the East Hampton Library will have its free movie night on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. screening “Midnight in Paris.”
Then on Saturday, from noon to 1:30 p.m., the library will hold its author talk with Long Island author Rosemary McKinley about her book, “The Wampum Exchange.”
Both of the library events are free, but require registration. Please register at the front desk or call 324-0222.

If you’re looking for a dose of fresh air on Saturday, why not help out with maintenance of the beautiful trails of the Stony Hill and Accabonac areas in East Hampton/Amagansett. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon to help the staff of Peconic Land Trust with a cleanup project that will include garbage removal and trimming of branches. Bring work gloves and hand pruners, warm refreshments will be provided. If there is heavy snow or rain, the event will be canceled. Please RSVP to Kathy Kennedy at 283-3195, ext. 29 or email to events@peconiclandtrust.org.
In other trails news, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society is offering its “Heart Of Springs Tour.” You will learn the story behind many historical sites, such as Ashawagh Hall, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, the cemetery, and the Parsons Blacksmith Shop. The event will be canceled if there is rain. Meet at Ashawagh Hall on Springs Fireplace Road and Old Stone Highway.
On Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m., Guild Hall and the Naked Stage presents a staged reading of “Three Tall Women,” written by Edward Albee with lead artist Josh Perl. This event is free.
Check out Guild Hall’s online calendar for a complete list of upcoming events, www.guildhall.org.
The East Hampton Historical Society has brought “Cider House” to town. Cider House is an event that will take place the second Saturday of the month and features a local musician. All sessions will be held at the Clinton Academy. Patrons of Rowdy Hall can now get a UA Cinema movie voucher, valued at $8.50, with purchase of an entrée Sunday through Thursday during lunch and dinner.
I am looking forward to my seventh annual Love & Passion Show, which has an open call for all artists in all mediums. The show will be held on February 11 and 12, at Ashawagh Hall, with the theme of “Sex, Drugs, and Rock’n’Roll.” You can email me at karynmannix@optonline.net for more information.
