Shots Fired At House In East Hampton

Jul 18, 2017 2:17 PM

East Hampton Town Police are searching for the person, or people, who fired several shotgun blasts into a house on Oakview Highway in East Hampton early Saturday morning, but so far have been stymied in their investigation by a lack of information from potential witnesses.

Police say they received a 911 call at about 3:45 a.m. from a person reporting that gunshots were fired at a house on Oakview Highway. When officers arrived, they found several empty shotgun shell casings on the ground outside and evidence of shots impacting the side of the building, though the damage was minimal.

Detectives interviewed those inside the house, whom they have not identified, but were unable to piece together a specific motive or list of possible suspects from the information related to them.

“We interviewed the occupants of the house and, as of now, we are still hoping for information about the incident to come forth,” Captain Chris Anderson said. “We believe it’s related to a prior dispute involving someone who is believed to have been in the house at the time and another individual or individuals.”

Capt. Anderson said several neighbors told police they heard the shots but didn’t see anything that was helpful to the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call detectives at 631-537-7575.
