Hampton Ballet Theatre School Will Present 'Coppelia' At Guild Hall April 20 To 22

Apr 16, 2018 1:23 PM

The Hampton Ballet Theatre School will perform the comedic ballet “Coppélia” at Guild Hall in East Hampton this weekend, with four showtimes.

Romantic era French composer Léo Delibes wrote the lively score for the ballet in 1870. Sara Jo Strickland, the director of Hampton Ballet Theatre School in Bridgehampton, choreographed this production.

“Coppélia” centers on the courtship of Swanhilda and Franz; the doll, Coppélia, whom Franz mistakenly courts; and the bumbling antics of Dr. Coppélius, who made the life-size dancing doll.

Guest artists include Nick Peregrino dancing the divertissements “Prayer” and “Gigue,” and Adam and Gail Baranello of A&G Dance Company dancing the divertissement “War.” Devon Friedman and Vincenzo James Harty, both advanced professional students at Hampton Ballet Theatre School, will be dancing the lead roles of Swanhilda and Franz.

Yuka Silvera sewed the costumes and Sebastian Paczynski did the lighting design.

Showtimes are Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at 1 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $45 in advance and from $20 to $50 at the door.
