East Hampton budget committee to issue report

Jul 20, 2010 1:13 PM

The East Hampton Town Budget and Finance Committee, a group of nine residents with backgrounds in business and finance, will present its final report for the year to the Town Board, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Town Hall.

The committee was appointed by the Town Board last year to help the town budget planning process operate more efficiently and help with cost savings, said Toni Somerstein, a member of the committee.

The committee has met publicly seven times and has interviewed town department heads in an effort to find out their financial needs and concerns, she said.

It has also reviewed town financial policies and procedures. The public is welcome to comment at the meeting, said Ms. Somerstein, who has a background in banking.

The chairman of the committee is Robert Kauffman, an attorney. Joe Gaviola, the owner of Gaviola’s Market in Montauk who has a background in finance, and Bernard Kiembock, owner of Village Hardware in East Hampton, serve as co-vice chairmen.
