Bringing back a tradition that began a decade ago, Mike Bahel of Body Tech Health and Fitness, along with the Old Montauk Athletic Club, hosted the eighth “Pump and Run” at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett on Wednesday. More than 20 people competed in the combination flat bench press and
2-mile beach run, which benefited the construction fund
for a pool at the Montauk Playhouse.
Bill O’Donnell and other members of the Old Montauk Athletic Club created the hybrid fitness competition 10 years ago, according to Bahel, who took over as the organizer of the event in 2002. Bahel put the competition on from 2002 until 2006; in recent years it had fizzled, until being brought back to life on Wednesday.
