The family moved to Brookfield, Connecticut, in the late 1970s, at which time Mrs. Gallaher began a second career as a successful real estate agent and then as proprietor of the fine women’s clothing shops “As You Like It” with her daughter Jeanne.

She was predeceased by her husband, John; and son John Jr. She is survived by daughters Jeanne Gallagher, Mary Ellen Gallagher, Eileen Clancy, Anne Marie Gallagher and Margaret Massa; and grandchildren, Rebecca, Katharine, Alana, John, Desmond and Kenneth Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Peter Hollingsworth.
