Joan Theresa Abbott Heine of East Quogue died on March 1. She was 88.
Ms. Heine was born on April 30, 1926, in Astoria, to Oscar and Susanna Abbott, who predeceased her. She moved to Laurelton as a teenager and met her future husband, William Heine. She devoted her life to making a home for her family, raising five children with her husband. They moved to East Quogue in 1974 and had many adventures together, survivors said.
After her husband’s death in 2001, she made the best of widowhood and traveled extensively. Ms. Heine especially enjoyed cruises, embarking on several over the years. She was in good health until very recently and lived with her roommate and best friend, her little white dog, Abby.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her older brother, Edgar; and two sons-in-law, Frank and Neal. She is survived by five children, Susan Leskody of Oregon, Kathleen Pratz and husband Arthur of Riverhead, Donna Kopp of Aquebogue, William Heine and wife Diane of Moriches, and James Heine and wife Ann of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren, Jill and husband Ed, Brian, Joan, Dawson, Jennifer and husband Matthew, William and wife Brittany, Christopher, Madison, and Nicole and husband Joseph; and five great-grandchildren.
