Scott DeTore won the 45-49 age division at the CrossFit Games last month.
For Scott DeTore, training for last month’s Reebok CrossFit Games required countless training hours, even if he didn’t know exactly what he was training for. It’s the nature of CrossFit, a strength and conditioning program with routines ranging from the traditional—weightlifting, cycling, rowing—to the more unorthodox, such as walking distances on one’s hands, handstand pushups and exercises that are called “burpees.”
All the preparation paid off as DeTore took first place in the Master’s division (ages 45-49) at the event, held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, from July 29 to 31. Altogether, the Games featured 538 competitors from 59 countries. Through it all, the Eastport resident was crowned “the fittest on Earth,” the competition’s motto.
