The call came in for a structure fire shortly before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by Eastport Fire Department spokesman Francis “Bud” Mazura. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the blaze had already extinguished itself, but not before filling the entire house with smoke.
Firefighters removed debris from the house and ventilated it for more than two hours. No injuries were reported.
On Wednesday morning, fire officials said the homeowner returned home to find the house filled with smoke. The homeowner called 911.
Approximately 25 firefighters responded to the scene with two pumpers and one heavy rescue unit. The Southampton Town fire marshal’s office is investigating.
