No charges have been filed following a two-car accident last week in Speonk that resulted in both drivers being taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Southampton Town Police Sergeant Andrew Ficurilli said the call for the accident, in which a 1995 Chevrolet sedan rear-ended a 2001 Jeep while both vehicles were heading west on Montauk Highway, near Clay Pit Road, came in just before 9 a.m. last Thursday, December 27.
Upon arriving at the scene, the Eastport Fire Department disabled the electrical systems for both vehicles and cleared debris from the road, according to a press release issued by Francis “Bud” Mazura, a spokesman for the department.
Both drivers were transported via Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance to the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for the treatment of minor injuries. There were no other passengers in either car, according to Sgt. Ficurilli.
The accident forced the closure of the westbound lane of Montauk Highway for approximately 40 minutes last Thursday morning.
Fifteen firefighters responded to the scene with one heavy rescue unit, one pumper truck and one traffic control unit.
