George W. Dunlap Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, formerly of East Moriches, died on January 19 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, surrounded by his family. He was 83.
Mr. Dunlap was born on September 23, 1930, in East Moriches to Lillian and George Dunlap Sr. He was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Eastport High School and he served four years in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a mason before being employed at Photocircuits in Aquebogue, one of the first manufacturers of circuit boards. He was a dedicated member of the East Moriches Volunteer Fire Department and the East Moriches Community Ambulance. During his many years of service, he was ambulance chief from 1966 to 1975, fire chief from 1973 to 1975 and elected “Fireman of the Year” in 1994. He loved fishing and working in his garden and he will be remembered for his generosity in helping others, survivors said.
Mr. Dunlap is survived by his wife, Rose; a brother, Harold Dunlap and wife Donna of Florida; a sister, Alice Stremick and husband John of Florida; two stepdaughters, Yvonne Roach and husband Jackson of Georgia, and Elisa Davidson and husband Larry of East Moriches. He is also survived by two grandchildren and eight cousins.
Interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches at a later date.
