Eastport-South Manor School Superintendent Placed On Paid Administrative Leave

Eastport-South Manor School Superintendent Dr. Patrick Brimstein was placed on paid administrative leave indefinitely as of Tuesday, according to district officials, who have so far declined to reveal the circumstances surrounding the move, citing confidentiality granted to personnel moves.

Board of Education President Nicholas Vero sent a brief email to school staff Tuesday morning advising them of Dr. Brimstein’s leave but likewise did not offer a reason for the decision.

The letter mentioned that an interim superintendent would be appointed. In the meantime, the two assistant superintendents—Tim Laube, who runs business and operations, and Linda Weiss, who runs personnel and accountability—will head the 3,200-student school district.

District officials initially said that a formal statement would be published on the district website later on Tuesday to inform the community of Dr. Brimstein’s leave, but no statement was ever posted.

Board members made the decision Monday night at a special meeting, according to an email from Mr. Laube, just two days before voting to adopt next school year’s $97 million budget and its propositions—one being for $512,000 to provide armed security guards—for inclusion on the May ballot.

“This is not good timing for anybody, and, trust me, I’m as disturbed as everybody else,” Mr. Vero said on Tuesday. “And what transpired, transpired.”

Mr. Vero said that the board is consulting with its attorney about how to proceed.

Board members were considering making a statement at the board meeting on Wednesday night, April 17, he said, but noted that they would be prioritizing budget-related topics on their agenda.

This school year, Dr. Brimstein has an annual salary of $219,257, in addition to $64,584 in other benefits and forms of compensation, according to data from the State Education Department’s website.

When is someone going to crack down on the exorbitant school taxes in this district? Highest School Taxes in Southampton Town! Where is the Town Board to represent their constituents in this school district? Hello? Anyone?

You vote for the local Bd of Ed who then sets the school tax rates.

It's the BOE who accepts the budget and then the district residents who vote whether or not to approve. Next school budget vote is Tuesday, May 14th.

When is enough enough? Every we er k on Long Island you have pervert teachers, incompetent principals, and the usual drug user employee. When does it end? What did this guy do? God only knows but more beating for the tacpayer.

Teachers belong to unions, so they are members of a trade, and not professionals as they would like you to believe. Taxpayers should not put up with teacher unions in public schools.

Obviously your teachers did not do a very good job of teaching you how to read. I didn't see anywhere in this article that this man is a teacher nor that he is involved in a union.

Superintendents are not unionized, and they're not necessarily teachers.

This is a sad moment for Eastport. Maybe turn lemons into lemonade? Ask for the Westhampton School Superintendent and administration to manage your school district. For a fee or just merge the two districts under one admin and save a bundle of tax money.

ALL the schools in this town should be combined into one district. There are fewer students and schools in the town than there are in some of the bigger districts west. Would save millions in superintendents salaries alone

Is anyone watching the piggy bank.If six parents got together and home schooled their kids the would be about $240,000, go figure. You and I put in a 40 hour week, what do the teachers put in a week?

If u knew any teachers u would know how wrong u r. Always@home marking tests,lesson&tests prep. 30 kids/class x 5 classes a day = 150 to review. In school "prep" time terribly insufficient.

Actually, 40 hrs plus some weeks. Requirements are not just in the classrooms teaching, not to mention the teachers and staff having to purchase supplies with their own money. Believe me, I think the admins are over paid in some cases but I also believe suspensions should be WITHOUT pay.

Teachers r the soul of education.Admins are the drain, overpaid and under-utilized. They should also teach some classes and be in the trenches to better perform their admin responsibilities.
