Another big win for the New York Giants and now it is on to Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5, to face the New England Patriots.

Congratulations to Tyler Gablenz, Deborah Bates and Bria Yazic, all of Riverhead, who were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at their respective colleges. Tyler attends Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, Deborah is a student at the State University of New York at Oneonta, and Bria is studying at the University of Vermont. Great job to all three of you and keep up the good work!

Congratulations to the Riverhead High School varsity cheerleaders on their first place finish at the Scarsdale competition on January 14. The girls placed first out of 12 teams in the small varsity division and were the Grand Champs of the overall competition. The team will next compete in their final local competition on Saturday, January 28, in Eastchester and will participate in a fundraiser on Saturday, February 4, in Hampton Bays. Good luck on the remainder of your season, girls, and best of luck at the Cheersport Nationals in Atlanta in February.

The next meeting of the Bay View Pines Civic & Taxpayers Association will be on Friday, February 3, at 7 p.m., at the David W. Crohan Community Center on Flanders Road. Code enforcement will be the topic of discussion and Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst is expected to be in attendance, along with some other town officials.

The Flanders Fire Department, the Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association and State Assemblyman Fred Thiele Jr. would like to thank everyone who donated blood in the most recent and most successful blood drive. Many thanks to Neil Young for donating his time and voice for the public service announcements on 92.1 WLNG, Meetinghouse Deli in Aquebogue for the delicious hero, the members of Flanders Fire Department, and Joey C., JJ, Nicole, Dos and Scott for donating their time. And special thanks to everyone who donated the gift of life!

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the fourth annual “Rockin’ for the Homeless” concert that’s being held at the Riverhead Polish Hall this Saturday, January 28, from 6 to 10 p.m. Four great bands will entertain and there will be door prizes, a Chinese auction, raffles and food.
