Three people were taken to the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead with non-life threatening injuries after a head-on crash on Flanders Road shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Southampton Town Police said the driver of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee traveling north fell asleep at the wheel and swerved into the center lane, hitting a 2006 Nissan pickup that was stopped while facing southbound and waiting to make a left-hand turn into the Garden Deli.
Police said the road was closed in both directions for about 50 minutes while responders cleared the scene. Both drivers and the backseat passenger of the Nissan were taken by Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance to the hospital.
Police said the driver of the Jeep was issued a traffic ticket for failing to keep right.
