Southampton Town Police arrested a Flanders man on Thursday morning after his car slammed into a utility pole on Flanders Road, bursting into flames and knocking out power to several homes.
Police charged Rower Romeo Hernandez-Xajap, 18, with DWI following the accident, which took place at about 2:30 a.m. He had climbed out of the car on his own before it caught fire and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead with minor injuries, according to police.
There were no other people in his car.
The burning car was quickly doused by Flanders Fire Department firefighters but three other vehicles parked nearby were also damaged, police said.
Power was restored to the area before sunrise on Thursday morning.
