According to Park Police Chief Richard O'Donnell, the death was ruled to be a suicide by gunshot. Office O'Donnell did not know what town the man lived in.
UPDATE, FRIDAY 10:15 A.M.:
New York State Park Police identified the body as a 29-year-old male from Nassau County.
According to Park Police Chief Richard O'Donnell, the body was found at Camp Hero at 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday by two young men who reported their discovery. He said police do not suspect foul play.
When asked if the body was found inside an abandoned bunker inside the old military base, Chief O'Donnell said that it was not, but could not say where exactly it was found.
The body was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine cause of death. Police are still investigating.

A body was found Wednesday on state park land in Montauk, according to East Hampton Town Police Chief Ed Ecker Jr.
He said that the body, possibly male, was found sometime on Wednesday and that New York State Park Police are investigating.
Park Police could not provide more details on Thursday afternoon.
