The East Hampton boys swim team found success in its first home meet of the season, beating Hauppauge, 95-75, at the East Hampton YMCA on January 9.

The Bonackers swept all three relays and several individuals won events as well. The team started with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, with Thomas Brierley, Trevor Mott, Chris Kalbacher and Shane McCann edging out Hauppauge by fractions of a second in 1:46.84. Hauppauge’s top team finished second in 1:46.89. East Hampton also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, with the combination of Rob Rewinski, Thomas Paradiso, Alex Astilean and McCann. They finished in 1:39.26.

Astilean, Rewinski, Brierley and Mott gave their team a sweep of the relays by finishing the 400-yard free relay in 3:36.72.

East Hampton was also third in two of the relays with other teams—Cortland Heneveld, Chris Kalbacher, Christian Brierley and Tyler Menold finished third in the 200 free relay in 1:44.33, while Andrew Winthrop, Kyle Sturmann, Anthony McGorisk and Paradiso were third in the 400 free relay in 3:54.77.

Thomas Brierley won two individual events for the Bonackers, taking first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05.37 and winning the 500-yard freestyle relay in 5:02.61, where he enjoyed nearly a 30-second margin of victory.

In the 50-yard freestyle, McCann was first in 24.01 seconds, followed by Rewinski, who took second in 24.78 seconds. Mott was second in a pair of events to help put points on the board for his team, finishing the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.04 and finishing the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.14. Joe Gengarelly was third in the breaststroke for East Hampton in 1:13.94.

Astilean and Sturmann finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.91 and 1:03.05; Rewinski was third in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.99 seconds; and Winthrop was third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:41.26. McGorisk took second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.31.

The Bonackers were scheduled to be back in the pool on Thursday, January 17, when they host Harborfields. They will have three more league meets after that and then will start the postseason.

ON THE SCHEDULE: Thursday, 1/17, vs. Harborfields, 4:30 p.m.; Thursday, 1/24, at West Islip, 4:30 p.m.
