Scott D. Golden, 44, of East Hampton was arraigned at his bedside at Southampton Hospital on Thursday after being charged with assaulting a police officer at his home on Oakview Highway on January 22.
Mr. Golden threw a large glass vase filled with rocks and beach glass at an East Hampton Town Police officer, police said, missing the officer and shattering a double-glass window.
He was charged with felony counts of assaulting a police officer and criminal mischief, as well as with second-degree harassment, a violation.
Police said they responded to Mr. Golden’s home at about 8 a.m. to investigate reports of a domestic incident, when they found him in boxer shorts and a fleece jacket with large amounts of blood on his clothing and hands, a gash above his forehead and with his legs and feet bleeding from walking on broken glass.
The house was in disarray, police said, with all the living room furniture turned upside down and both the living room and kitchen floors covered in glass and blood. Mr. Golden, who was in the kitchen, screamed, grunted and spit out blood when an officer called his name, according to police. He was moving toward the officer when two more officers arrived, police said, and the first officer ordered Mr. Golden to drop the vase but he threw it at him instead.
Police said they used a Taser in an attempt to subdue Mr. Golden, with no success. When he advanced on the officers, two of them tackled him, handcuffed him behind his back and shackled his ankles. He was taken by East Hampton ambulance to Southampton Hospital.
